What is therapy and is it for me? Therapy is a space just for you- a chance to talk with a trained professional about your feelings, challenges, and goals. It’s a place to gain clarity, manage stress, and build tools for a healthier mindset. As a nurse, you spend so much time holding space for others. Therapy gives you the space to process, reflect, and prioritize your own well-being. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or need support, it can make a real difference. If you’re curious about whether it’s right for you, consider starting with a session to explore what it could offer. There’s no pressure, and it’s all about what feels best for you.
Are your services specifically designed for nurses? Yes! Nursefully was created exclusively for nurses, with a deep understanding of the unique challenges they face. We partner with therapists who have experience working with and alongside nurses, so they truly understand issues like compassion fatigue, moral injury, lived trauma, shift work stress, and work-life balance. Everything we do is designed to make it easier for nurses to access the emotional and mental health support they deserve at any stage of their careers.
Who can receive therapy through Nursefully? We proudly serve a wide range of nursing professionals at every stage of their careers. Whether you're starting out or have decades of experience, we can help connect you with a therapist who understands your world. Our clients include: * Nursing students * Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) * Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) / Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) * Registered Nurses (RNs) * Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs), including Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), and Nurse Midwives * Nurse Leaders and Nurse Educators, including Nurse Managers, Directors of Nursing, and Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) * Nurses transitioning careers or considering leaving the profession * And many more We know nursing can affect every aspect of home life. Some therapists we work with also provide support for spouses/partners of nurses, creating space to navigate these challenges together. No matter where you are in your journey- as a nurse or as someone sharing life with one- you're welcome here.
What’s the point of therapy if the root causes of my stress, like poor staffing ratios and increasing demands, aren’t fixed? We understand that it can feel frustrating to focus on personal solutions when the root causes are systemic. At Nursefully, therapy isn’t about telling you to “fix yourself” or just cope better—it’s about giving you space to process what you’re experiencing and develop strategies that work for you. While we can’t change the system, we can help you protect your mental and emotional health, set boundaries, and prioritize your well-being in a way that feels empowering and gives you back some control.
I'm a nurse- shouldn’t I be able to handle the demands of this job without needing therapy? It’s a common thought, but let’s reframe it: being a nurse means you’re constantly giving your all—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Therapy isn’t about admitting you can’t handle your job; it’s about recognizing that even the strongest, most compassionate caregivers need support too. Nursing comes with unique stressors—long hours, high stakes, and emotional exhaustion—that can take a toll over time. Therapy is a space to process those challenges, strengthen your well-being, and take care of yourself so you can keep showing up for your patients, your loved ones and your life outside of work. Asking for help isn’t a weakness; it’s a strength that ensures you can thrive in the career you’ve worked so hard for.
I'm worried about workplace stigma. Can my employers access my therapy records? No. Your therapy records are confidential and are not shared with your employer. The therapists we connect you with are bound by strict privacy laws like HIPAA, which protect your information and keep it between you and your therapist. The only exceptions involve specific legal requirements, such as cases of imminent danger or court orders, but these are rare and would be discussed with you.
How is Nursefully different from an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offered through my employer? Unlike EAPs, Nursefully is an independent organization dedicated to connecting nurses with specialized mental health care. Here’s how we’re different: * Specialized Care for Nurses: We focus on the unique challenges nurses face, like emotional exhaustion, compassion fatigue, and career transitions. * Confidential and Independent: We’re not tied to any employer, so your privacy is assured, and there’s no risk of your workplace being informed about your participation. You don't even have to tell us where you work. * Insurance-Covered Therapy: While EAPs often provide limited free sessions, we make it easier to access licensed therapists who accept your insurance, so you can continue care with little to no out-of-pocket cost. * Flexibility and Accessibility: All our sessions are virtual, making it easy to fit therapy into your schedule. We’re here to connect you with meaningful, short- and long-term support tailored to the needs of nurses, not just a quick solution"
What issues can I bring to therapy? Therapy is a space to explore whatever is on your mind, whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply looking for support in navigating life’s challenges. Many nurses seek therapy for stress, burnout, compassion fatigue, anxiety, depression, workplace struggles, or feeling disconnected from their sense of purpose. You might also want to work through personal concerns like relationships, grief, or setting boundaries. Your therapist will help you process your experiences and develop tools to manage them. To help ensure you’re matched well, all clients start with a brief 15-minute consultation with their assigned therapist. This call helps confirm if telehealth is a good fit for your needs. Some situations may require a higher level of care or in-person support, and if that’s the case, we’ll help connect you to the right resources. If you are experiencing active suicidal thoughts or a mental health crisis, please do not wait to schedule an appointment. Immediate support is available. You can call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, go to the nearest emergency room, or reach out to a local crisis service for immediate help. You deserve care right now, and there are people ready to support you.
Can I only see a therapist for nursing related problems? Not at all! While the therapists we connect you with specialize in understanding the unique challenges nurses face, you’re welcome to bring any concern to your sessions. Whether it’s work-related stress, personal relationships, anxiety, or anything else affecting your mental health, we’re here to support you as a whole person, not just as a nurse. Your sessions are a safe space to explore whatever is on your mind.
Will I always need therapy? Therapy is a personal journey, and the goal is often to help you reach a place of greater independence and well-being. The therapists we connect you with focus on building skills and confidence so you can navigate challenges on your own over time. When you feel ready, you and your therapist can decide together whether to reduce sessions or conclude therapy, knowing you have the tools to move forward successfully. And if you ever find yourself needing support again, Nursefully will be here to help you reconnect with care.
What types of therapy can I access through Nursefully? We connect nurses to licensed therapists who provide individual, couples, and group therapy tailored to the unique needs of the nursing profession.
What's your process for selecting therapists? When we built Nursefully, we committed to partnering with licensed therapists who truly understand the unique challenges nurses face. Every therapist in our network is qualified and experienced, but what sets them apart is their ability to connect on a personal level. Many have worked directly with healthcare professionals, some are nurses themselves, and others come from backgrounds that give them deep insight into the stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue nurses experience. It’s not just about credentials. It’s about finding people who genuinely love working with nurses, are dedicated to helping them navigate their world, and understand the value nurses bring to the world. Our goal is to help you connect with a therapist who doesn’t just listen, but gets it.
What if I don't click with my therapist? We understand how important it is to feel comfortable with your therapist. It’s a key part of the process. If you don’t feel like it’s the right fit, that’s okay! Just let us know, and we’ll work with you to match you with someone who better suits your needs and style. Finding the right connection can take time, and we’re here to make sure you get the support you deserve.
Can’t I just vent to my coworkers or friends instead of seeing a therapist? Talking to coworkers can be comforting, but they’re often dealing with the same stress and may not have the emotional bandwidth to fully support you. Friends and family might listen, but they may not truly understand the unique challenges of nursing. A therapist gives you a judgment-free space to unpack what you're going through and provides real tools to help you cope—not just in the moment, but for the long haul. More than just venting, therapy helps you process, gain clarity, and find real strategies to feel better.
I’ve never been to therapy before. What should I expect? Your first session is all about getting to know you and understanding your concerns. It’s a supportive environment where you can share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. You and your therapist will work together to set goals and develop a plan that’s tailored to your needs.
How are your therapy sessions delivered? Therapists in our network conduct sessions virtually, using secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms to protect your privacy and confidentiality. Virtual care offers flexibility and convenience, making it easier to access support from the comfort of your home or wherever works best for you.
Can I be anywhere in the world for virtual therapy sessions? Therapists can only work with clients located in the states where they are licensed to practice. While you can join sessions from anywhere within those states, licensing regulations prevent therapists from providing care to clients outside of those areas. If you have upcoming travel plans, let your therapist know in advance so they can confirm whether sessions can continue while you’re away.
How do I schedule my first session? You can book your first session at www.nursefully.com, or contact us directly at hi@nursefully.com. We’ll walk you through the process and help connect you with a licensed therapist who’s the right fit for your needs.
Can I refer a colleague to your services? Absolutely! If you know a nurse who might benefit from therapy, feel free to share our contact information or direct them to our website for more details.
Can my family members receive therapy through Nursefully? Nursefully is designed primarily for nurses, but therapists in our network also work with spouses and partners. We recognize the unique challenges nursing can bring to personal relationships, and we want to help support both you and your loved ones. By including spouses and partners, we aim to foster stronger understanding and connection at home.
Do you accept insurance? Therapists in our network accept a variety of insurance plans, and the list of in-network options is always growing. Out-of-pocket payment options are also available, including a transparent sliding scale based on income range. Contact us at hi@nursefully.com for details about current coverage.
What if my insurance isn't accepted? While we’re always working to grow the list of insurance plans our partnered providers accept, you still have options if your plan isn’t included. If you have out-of-network benefits, you can pay privately, and you'll receive a detailed invoice or superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Therapists in our network offer a private pay rate of $150 per session, with sliding scale options available based on income. Email us at hi@nursefully.com to explore what’s possible for you.
Why isn't therapy available in my state yet? Our goal is to make high-quality mental health care accessible to nurses in all 50 states. To do that well, we’re intentionally expanding by partnering with therapists who share our mission and are licensed in the states we serve. This thoughtful approach ensures we maintain the level of quality and understanding nurses deserve, even if it takes a little more time. If we’re not yet connected with therapists in your state, you can share your location with us, and we’ll prioritize finding providers there as we grow. Your patience helps us stay committed to intentional, impactful growth.
Can therapists prescribe medications? Therapists we partner with do not prescribe medications. Their focus is on providing psychotherapy and mental health support. If you need medication, your therapist can refer you to a qualified prescriber, such as a psychiatrist or medical provider, so your care is comprehensive and well-coordinated.
I'm already on medication. Why would I need therapy too? Medication can help manage symptoms, but they don’t address the root cause of stress, trauma, or burnout. Therapy gives you the space to process what you’ve been through, develop coping strategies, and make long-term changes in how you handle the emotional toll of nursing. Think of medication as a life raft—it keeps you afloat. Therapy is learning how to swim so you don’t feel like you’re drowning.
